Gathering Water
GATHERING WATER
by Regan Claire

Release date: January 26th 2014

Purchase: Amazon

Synopsis via Goodreads:

Della Doe Deare isn't like most people. Most people begin their life on the day they enter the world; the day they're born. Della, well, hers began on the day she turned eighteen. After all, it was the day she first heard her real name, and that of her mother. With nothing but a couple of duffel bags and a folder full of questions, she travels to coastal North Carolina to claim a house that she inherited from a grandmother she never knew.

She has two goals: discover why her mother ran away from home all those years ago, and avoid the family that had left her to rot in an inept foster care system. Hard to do when the family she's been trying to avoid is dragging her into an unimaginable world... a world on the brink of war, and both sides want her dead.

All Della ever wanted was to know who she was, but her journey to self-discovery might just lead to destruction.

About the Author
A Tidewater girl born and bred, Regan Claire's first friend and love was the Atlantic. Growing up being told the legends about Pirates and American Natives common in coastal VA and NC, coupled with being an only child, did wonders for her imagination; Regan had one foot in fantasy-land ever since, a trait her dear husband heroically endures (and one she secretly hopes her daughters have inherited). Her family moved inland to Nashville while she was entering tweenhood and not a day went by that she didn't miss her childhood playmate and her crashing waves. Nashville has her perks though, namely the love of Regan's life and their two sweet girls. Their insane mutt-dog and the stray cat that refuses to leave their porch aren't too bad either. Regan loves fairytales A LOT, teen movies (preferably with dancing or singing), reads entirely too much, and is constantly late.

REVIEW

From the moment I started this book I fell face first like I was devouring a chocolate pie and Lord knows I love chocolate pie!! :P This was such a unique story unlike anything I have ever read and I absolutely loved it. Regan did an awesome job of filling us in about everything that Della  had been through with the foster system until that one special social worker who vowed to help her found out and told her on her 18th birthday about her family that she knew nothing about.

Della had been willed a house from her grandmother on the outer banks of North Carolina where the rest of her biological family lives. She was determined to claim what little bit of inheritance that she had from her mom and grandmother. Once she arrived she was unknowingly introduced a few people at a time to her family and gradually to the abilities that their family possessed. I loved that her powers were gathered from the elements around her reminding me much of Avatar: The Last Airbender.

The characters were all very likable and easy to follow along with. I fell in love with her cousin, Cash. He was so kind to her and so excited to meet her. His family was so surprised in seeing her because they had no idea her mom had died much less that she had had a baby. Her mom had been running from something but you will just have to read it to find out what. There is quite an exciting story behind their family and it will draw you in and not let you go. Her family isn’t the only ones who have powers and like always there are bad guys to battle. Della finds out that this is a battle of good vs. evil and she plays a big part in it.  And GOOD LORD then there was Dove. The romance between them was so sweet and his family had knowledge and abilities that have helped her family through the years when they had to battle the Cade.

Some books I read play out like movies in my head and when I was done with Gathering Water and thought back about it, I was picturing it like I had just seen The Avengers or Spiderman. It played so vividly in my mind. It had a great cliff hanger ending and I want the next one NOW! I can’t wait to continue the life and adventure of Della, Dove, Cash and the entire family in the next book.

5 HOOTS for GATHERING WATER!! I loved it!
