Virtual Book Tour! ~ Interview ~ The Wysard by Deborah J. Lightfoot

The Wysard
by  Deborah J. Lightfoot
Young Adult/New Adult Literary Fantasy
Date Published:
Book #2 in the Waterspell Series

After blundering into the last stronghold of magic, Carin discovers that she is right to fear the wizard Verek. He is using her to seal the ruptures in the void, and she may be nothing more to him than an expendable weapon. What will he do with her—or to her—when his world is again secure? Or has he erred in believing that the last bridge has been broken? The quest may not, in fact, be over … and Lord Verek may find himself not quite as willing to dispose of his fiery water-sylph, Carin, as he once believed himself to be.

What is your favorite flavor of ice cream?
Blue Bell’s Banana Split: sliced bananas, crushed pineapple, diced maraschino cherries and roasted almonds in vanilla ice cream with strawberry sauce and chocolate sundae sauce. To die for!!!

What is your favorite thing to eat for breakfast?
Yogurt with granola and fruit.

Night owl or early bird?
It depends. Sometimes the muse is upon me until the wee hours. Other times I'm up before dawn to commune with the Morning Star.

One food you would never eat?
Brains.

Skittles or M&Ms?
M&Ms if I must. But I'd prefer a bar (or two) of dark Belgian chocolate.

When you were little, what did you want to be when you "grew up"?
I went through the nurse phase, complete with toy stethoscope. After that came the astronaut phase, then the Woman Who Runs With the Wolves. While nursing no longer interests me, I'm still available to go into space. NASA? Virgin Galactic? Call me! As for running with the wolves, that's a phase I hope to never outgrow.

You have won one million dollars. What is the first thing that you would buy?
As big a chunk of pristine wilderness as I could get my hands on, to save it from the greedheads who despoil Nature for profit.

Print or Ebook?
Either. Both. My Nook Tablet is filled with ebooks, and my shelves with paperbacks. I've generally got one of each going at any given time.

What movie are you looking forward to this year?
Mud. I like Matthew McConaughey and I like Southern dramas.

Finish the sentence: One book I wish I had written is ...
Wuthering Heights. As great as it is, I would like to cut out the narrators—Lockwood and Nellie—and engage the characters directly. How powerful would the story be if told entirely from Heathcliff's point of view?

What is next on your to-read list?
When my life settles down and I get more time to read, I plan to pick up Graceling by Kristin Cashore.

Any other books in the works?
Just to clarify: Waterspell is a trilogy, and all are published. The story begins with Waterspell Book 1: The Warlock, continues with Book 2: The Wysard, and concludes (for the present) with Book 3: The Wisewoman. They are the beginning, middle, and end of a continuous story.
My work-in-progress is tentatively titled “Out of Mind.” It’s a story of the paranormal set in the American West of the far future. Eventually, too, there may be a Waterspell Book 4. Still mulling that over.

Thank you, Michelle, for this interview and for hosting me on your blog! I've enjoyed this stop on my book tour.

Thanks! You’re awesome! :D

Castles in the cornfield provided the setting for Deborah J. Lightfoot’s earliest flights of fancy.
On her father’s farm in Texas, she grew up reading tales of adventure and reenacting them behind ramparts of sun-drenched grain. She left the farm to earn a degree in journalism and write award-winning books of history and biography. High on her Bucket List was the desire to try her hand at the genre she most admired. The result is WATERSPELL, a multi-layered fantasy trilogy about a girl and the wizard who suspects her of being so dangerous to his world, he believes he'll have to kill her ... which troubles him, since he's fallen in love with her. Waterspell Book 1: The Warlock; Book 2: The Wysard; and Book 3: The Wisewoman.
