Blog Tour & [Interview + GIVEAWAY] A Cast Of Stones by Patrick W. Carr

Welcome Author Patrick W. Carr

Patrick Carr was born on an Air Force base in West Germany at the height of the cold war. He has been told this was not his fault. As an Air Force brat, he experienced a change in locale every three years until his father retired to Tennessee. Patrick saw more of the world on his own through a varied and somewhat eclectic education and work history. He graduated from Georgia Tech in 1984 and has worked as a draftsman at a nuclear plant, did design work for the Air Force, worked for a printing company, and consulted as an engineer. Patrick’s day gig for the last five years has been teaching high school math in Nashville, TN. He currently makes his home in Nashville with his wonderfully patient wife, Mary, and four sons he thinks are amazing: Patrick, Connor, Daniel, and Ethan. Sometime in the future he would like to be a jazz pianist. Patrick thinks writing about himself in the third person is kind of weird.

When you were little, what did you want to be when you "grew up"?
I wanted to be a professional baseball player. I lived, breathed, and dreamed the sport. Alas, my knees had other ideas. When people see me gimping around they sometimes ask me what happened. I always tell them the same thing: When I was young, I thought I was an athlete. So, take care of your knees kids. You might want to write that down.

What is something people would be surprised to know about you?
I can juggle and read a book at the same time. I’m like the world’s worst guy at multi-tasking, but I taught myself to juggle when I was thirteen and learned a few tricks. One of them was to watch the balls with my peripheral vision while reading. It’s not really as hard as it looks, but it always makes a splash.

Favorite sport?
To watch would be football or soccer. To play would be baseball or softball.

Please tell us in one sentence only, why we should read your book.
It’s the kind of book you can read more than once and enjoy because I’ve hidden a lot of allegorical symbolism within the plot (without being preachy).

If you could choose any author to co write a book with, who would you choose?
Only one? That’s tough. I would say Robert Jordan, the author of “The Wheel of Time” series. Working with him would be such a learning experience. I’d like to know how he created such an incredibly large scope for his writing. I mean, how do you keep all that information organized? It’s amazing.

If you could spend a day with one famous person living or not who would you choose?
Jesus. I have so many questions and it seems like the older I get, the more questions I have.

How did you celebrate the sale of your first book?
I took my family out to dinner to this Greek restaurant called “Athens” in Nashville. Great food, not too expensive.

What was your favorite subject in school?
I loved Chemistry. I’m a math teacher now, but in school, Chemistry was so fun. We got to do a lot of labs and getting to mix all the chemicals and see the reactions was like making magic for me. At the end of the year, my teacher, Mr. Mayo, gave each student a test tube with a liquid in it and told us to figure out what it was. That was the most fun I ever had in any class. It was like being a detective.

Print or Ebook?
Print. I’m old school on pretty much everything even though I have an engineering degree.

Chocolate or Vanilla?
Ha. Chocolate is one of the ways I know God loves me.

Regular or Diet?
Regular, but I’m trying to cut down. I get weird(er) with too much sugar.

Action or Drama?
Action. There’s enough drama in the real world.

Sweet or Salty?
Sweet, and usually chocolaty. Every year around Christmas I make about 50 pounds of fudge to give away.

PC or Mac?
PC, but that’s just because I don’t want to spend the extra money.

If you could be a super hero what ability would you choose?
I would want to have the power to be invisible because I think there are too many things that are hidden by power and money that should come to light. I think we would have a much different world if our governments were truly as transparent as they claim they want to be.
·
And what would your kryptonite be?
Probably infrared motion sensors. Invisibility can hide you from being seen, but they can’t keep you from giving off body heat. I’d need some kind of thermal cooling suit that could adapt itself to the ambient temperature. Hmmm. I’m starting to get an idea for a book here. J

Great interview! Love his answers, especially the reason he loves chocolate! Wonder how I can get on his Christmas fudge gift list? :)
