Summary Goodreads
Sixteen year old Wisteria Kuti has two options—track the infected around the Isle of Smythe or leave the only known safe haven and face a world infested with flesh eating biters. But even with well-armed trackers, things go wrong and Wisteria ends up alone facing certain death, until she is rescued by the mysterious Bach. Uninfected, Bach is able to survive among the hordes of living dead.

Eighteen year old Bach, from a race known as The Family, has no interest in human affairs. He was sent here to complete his Great Walk and return home as a man—as a Sen Son. The Family regard humans as Dirt People, but Bach is drawn to this Terran girl, whom he has never seen before, but somehow knows.

Hunted by flesh eaters, cannibals, and the mysterious blood thirsty group called Red Phoenix, Wisteria and Bach make their way back to the Isle of Smythe, a community
built on secrets and lies.

First of all, when I was invited to read this book on a blog tour I saw the cover and immediately read the blurb. As soon as I read “flesh eaters” as my readers know, I had to jump at it. I love all things zombie and when presented the opportunity to read a zombie book I cannot say no.

Wisteria, her mother and brother live on the Ilse of Smythe, a small city of people who have survived the Nero disease outbreak. Protected by the military the isle doesn't see many biters. Wisteria works with a group of people who helps track the biters on the Isle. If they find them they “cure” them. Or in other words kill them.

On a tracking mission she is left behind, stranded in zombie infested territory. Wisteria is saved by a mysterious teenager, Bach. He takes her back to his apartment where he lives with and two friends. He is not human and not from Earth. He thinks humans or Terrans are animals. Bach is only on Earth to see the death of Terra (Earth). Soon, Bach realizes Wisteria is a girl from his past. However, she doesn't remember him.

Up until now I was getting a little bored with the whole thing but this is where the book really becomes interesting. They are attacked by a group known as Red Phoenix.  After the attack, Wisteria returns to Smythe Island with Bach. Finally, both of them realize they love each other. However, Bach knows they cannot be together because it is not allowed by his people. If they stay together he is placing Wisteria in danger. The ending is the best. It reveals Bach’s heartbreak and betrayal. Also, Wisteria learns about her parent's involvement with Red Phoenix.

I loved Wisteria’s world but Bach’s world definitely could have used a little more explanation. I am still confused. You are kind of thrown into it and have to just figure it out as you go with the little hints you are given throughout the story.  I do really like Bach as a character. Even though he acts snobby and uncaring there are a few times where we see him become almost human. I liked the moments of playful banter between him and Wisteria. Wisteria herself has those soft moments. Throughout the story Wisteria is exposed to cannibalism and bullying. She is a very strong young woman, but seems a little lost and out of place on the Isle. It is hard not to like her.

The only thing I found wrong with this book was the need for better editing. Other than that and the slow beginning, this book had suspense, heartbreak, betrayal, love and my favorite thing, zombie action. I just wish that there had been more time spent explaining the world that Bach is from and how he and Wisteria are connected. And little more detail about the infestation caused by Nero. But I guess that’s where book #2 comes in.  :)

All in all I give this book 4 stars.
