Hollowland Series #1

Summary: Goodreads

"This is the way the world ends - not with a bang or a whimper, but with zombies breaking down the back door."

Nineteen-year-old Remy King is on a mission to get across the wasteland left of America, and nothing will stand in her way - not violent marauders, a spoiled rock star, or an army of flesh-eating zombies.

Review:

The "lyssavirus genotype 8" a mutated form of the rabies virus. It only infects humans. The infected are insanely hungry and will eat anything, including dirt, pillows, and people. If you get their blood or saliva in your blood your dead. That simple.

So they quarantine all the healthy people and "hope" the zombies and the virus die off. Not such a well thought out plan...

I liked this book on so many levels. One is because I have a fascination with the whole "end of the world zombie apocalypse" thing. Two is the characters were so real. A sister (Remy) that will stop at nothing to find her little brother, an orphan girl (Harlow) wanting to belong to someone, a doctor (Blue), a rock star (Lazlo) and a lioness (Ripley). (YES I said lioness!) They become somewhat of a "family unit" on their trek looking for Remy's brother Max who has been moved from one quarantine to another. They put all their trust in Remy unconditionally to keep them safe. The characters in this story work well together. There was non stop action right from the start. But eventually they find out what secret Remy is hiding and everything changes.

Remy was one tough zombie killing machine. At times she was a little cold hearted, but loving, depending on the situation. She wasn't afraid to make the hard choices when she had to. She was also very caring and brave when it comes to the people she loved and cared about. She was relentless in her determination to find her brother. Everyone Remy came across wanted to stay with her because they knew she would protect them.

I love a story with a happy ending and this one didn't disappoint but it did leave you hanging to come back for the sequel. I gave this 4 stars only because it had several misspelled and left out words. But it was definitely worth the read and didn't disappoint me in the zombie action department.

Love strong female characters. Never read anything zombish (although love vampires, shifters, weres, faes, succubus - anything else sups..) but this one sounds really good. You have me intrigued.
Good reviewing style, btw, you told what's it about but not released the plot. Thank you for that. It's rare. :D
